Analysis of viyali teledrama

 











 Nimal: This is the head of the family, a pragmatic protective father who relocates his family to the haunted village without knowing the supernatural challenges his family will go through.
• Kumari: She is the wife of Nimal and has to bear all the pain that he creates within the home. She tries to hold the family together in such a chaotic situation.
• Ravi: The elder son, he is sceptical of anything supernatural and, in turn, becomes a prime agent in revealing the sinister secrets of the village.
• Mala: The daughter, Mala is sensitive and often the first to experience supernatural events; thus, she is critical to the unfolding mystery.
• Saman: A native of the village knowing all about its past regarding the haunted history, who becomes an ally to Nimal's family in their pursuit to understand and face up to the spirit.

"Viyali" is a Sri Lankan teledrama which became prominent for its comprehensive storyline and richness in thematic content. The plot involves a family that has been compelled to shift into a village fully haunted by the revengeful spirit of a dead woman for various mysterious reasons. Well, this only forms a backcloth of supernatural elements to firm up the deeper personal and social issues that are put across.
